At Santa Fe I.S.D. we are committed to providing quality transportation services to our students and this starts with our drivers. The role of a School Bus Driver is very important and our focus at Santa Fe I.S.D. is to equip our drivers with the tools they need to be successful.

 If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding position that allows you to have the same schedule as your school age children, or retired and looking to supplement retirement pay maybe being a school bus driver is for you!

Drivers and monitors work a split day from approximately 5:45am - 8:45am and 2:00pm - 5:00pm.

Starting Pay with no experience for drivers is $20.00 - $25.00 / Per Hour and for monitors is $11.60 - $15.24 / Per Hour.

 If you are an experienced driver or monitor your pay will be adjusted based on your years of experience.

No experience is required, training is available.

Question: How do I know if my child is eligible for transportation?

Answer: Because areas deemed as a hazard surround each campus, all students legally registered at a campus who reside within the boundaries of Santa Fe ISD are eligible to ride a school bus to and from their legal residence. (District policy prohibits transportation to or from a business.)

Question: Is there a fee for my student to ride a school bus?

Answer: No, transportation is provided as a service at no cost to the parent by the district.

Question: Will the bus stop in front of my house?

Answer: Not necessarily, depending on where you reside, bus stops may be consolidated to run our routes more efficiently which allows for fewer stops and a shorter ride for your student.

Question: What time will the bus pick up my student?

Answer: Once a route is determined, you will be informed of the approximate time the bus will arrive at your stop. It is recommended that your student be at your designated stop approximately 10 minutes prior to their designated time as times may vary depending on who may be riding or traffic situations.

Question: What time will my student be dropped off after school?

Answer: Drop off times may vary up to 20 minutes in the afternoon depending on how many students may be riding on a specific day. It is also required that someone be at all R.J. Wollam bus stops to receive those students. RJW students without someone to meet them at the bus stop will be returned to the Transportation Center. Note: Riding a school bus is a privilege that may be revoked if a student does not abide by the rider rules.

Answer: Yes! Transportation service is provided to and from licensed daycares within Santa Fe ISD boundaries.

Safe and Efficient Stop Parameters Students residing on a dead-end road living within ½ mile of the nearest through street will receive service at the nearest point on the through street. Students residing on a dead end road with registered riders more than ½ mile from the through street will receive service on their street if there is a safe public turn around, or a safe private turn around with notarized right of entry agreement. Roads not receiving city, county or state maintenance will not be traveled. Private roads will not be traveled. Students residing on private roads, roads not maintained by city, county or state, or not freely accessible will receive service from the nearest public road access. The average bus is 8.5 feet wide from left side mirrors to right side body. Heavily traveled roads must be at least 18 feet wide to allow for a bus and another wide vehicle to pass without leaving the paved surface of the road. Moderate to lightly traveled roads with numerous adequate pullouts may be traveled if the majority of the road is at least 16 feet wide. Without adequate pullouts these roads cannot support incident-free transportation

Safety is in Everyone's Best Interest

Stop-arm cameras are installed at a key location on the exterior of half of Santa Fe ISD route buses. When a school bus extends its stop-arm, the system can automatically detect if a vehicle passes the stopped school bus within the enforced zone.

If a vehicle passes the school bus, the cameras capture images and video of the violating vehicle. The images show not only the violating vehicle as it passes the school bus, but also the vehicle’s license plate and the school bus’s extended stop arm. The system also records a video of the violating vehicle as further evidence of the violation.
