Becoming a Substitute    

1. Complete Online Application: 
Complete the substitute online application.  If you need a computer, it is available in the HR Office. After you apply, you will receive an email outlining the substitute process including information regarding the online orientation. 
 
2. Complete Substitute Teacher Orientation:
After you complete the virtual orientation and assessment, please notify Tara Mata to continue the process to become a substitute.  The orientation will include discussions on topics such as Educator Code of Ethics, AESOP Management System, Classroom Management and Substitute Handbook.
 
3. Fingerprinting:
If fingerprinting is needed, you will receive an email from Identego with a link to make an appointment. You are responsible for payment and scheduling this appointment. The facility will accept credit/debit card, checks or money order payment (no cash). Make sure to take a valid ID to the appointment.
 
4.  Educational Requirements:
It is required for substitutes to have 48 hours of higher education hours.  An official transcript will be required to confirm completion of higher education hours.  If you do not have the required 48 hours, please contact Tara Mata to schedule a PAC assessment (Paraprofessionals’ Assessment of Competencies). 
 
5.  Substitute Paperwork:
Once Steps 1-4 have been completed, you'll receive information to complete the new hire substitute required paperwork as well as providing any required documentation, such as ID and SSN.   

6. Mandatory Compliance Training
All mandatory trainings are required to be completed within 30 days of becoming an SFISD Substitute.  This includes Safe Schools Online mandatory training as well as the in-person CRASE and Stop the Bleed training.  An email will be sent with log-in information to access Safe Schools as well as the dates to attend the in-person CRASE and Stop the Bleed training.  
 

Previous Substitutes who did not submit a Letter of Reasonable Assurance for the 2023-2024 school year will have to be rehired. Please update your application and contact Human Resources.
