Campus Safety & Security Enhancements
Increased District Security
Additional security in all schools with the additional Santa Fe ISD Police Department police officers and campus security assistants who provide increased security monitoring in hallways, door entries and student supervision. The SFISD Police Department trains all staff and students in safety procedures in major crisis events such as active shooter incident, fire or tornado.
Safety Training
All Santa Fe ISD employees and substitutes complete the Safe Schools training system for all federal, state and local mandated employee compliance training before the school year begins. Safety training in these sessions include, but are not limited to, Active Shooter Bullying Recognition and Response, Crisis Response and Recovery. Training is available in both English and Spanish for all employees.
Secure Vestibule
Secured entrances on all campuses and within all departments ensures that visitors must check in with a receptionist and show proof of identity.
Video Surveillance
All campus common areas, access points and school perimeters are monitored and footage recorded via video surveillance.
Visitor Management System
SFISD utilizes the Raptor Visitor Management System which conducts an enhanced National criminal-based search on all volunteers as well as an automatic sex offender registry check on all visitors to a campus.
Perimeter Fencing
New fencing was erected over the past year at all elementary campuses to create a separation of space where students are engaged in outdoor activities. This measure also controls access to the public during the school day, except through the intended secure access point at the front office.
Intercom Systems
All campuses are equipped with systems for general paging, bell operations and emergency communications. The high school campus public address system provides panic and check-in buttons in each classroom.
Fire Alarm Systems
All campuses are equipped with alarm systems that conform to current ADA standards requiring a strobe or horn/strobe in every classroom. The high school system includes a voice system that will play recorded statements regarding exiting the building in place of horns.
Metal Detectors
All campuses are equipped with metal detectors.
High School-9 metal detectors
Junior High-6 metal detectors
Kubacak-2 metal detectors
RJ Wollam-2 metal detectors
Parents on Patrol Squad Program
The District is increasing participation in and the visibility of the SFISD Police Department Parent on Patrol Squad (POPS) program. POPS is a volunteer program designed to involve parents, grandparents and other relatives, to volunteer their time to assist school district police officers on their respective SFISD campuses.
