SOAR
SOAR is a collaborative preschool/inclusion program for children of SFISD staff and children in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD). Children of SFISD staff who are at least age 3 by September 1 are eligible to apply for the SOAR Program. Tuition of $400 per month is charged and paid through payroll deduction. Benefits of the SOAR program are twofold. Research has shown that the progress of children receiving PPCD services is increased due to the interaction and learning with non-disabled peers. The staff children benefit by becoming mature three and four-year olds, learning compassion for others, empathy, leadership and strong social skills. They learn to actively accept and celebrate differences. The hope is that these attitudes will be long-term, and these children will be school and adult leaders who practice the celebration of differences. As a whole, the SOAR program brings together PPCD children and staff children to create a beneficial early childhood program. This program began in the 2008-2009 school year using the Pre-K guidelines and has been successful in preparing our students for the kindergarten program.
