Updated 1/18/10 Optional Flexible Year Program (OFYP) SFHS has been granted approval to modify our instructional calendar to provide an optional flexible year program (OFYP) to meet the educational needs of our students, including providing intensive instructional services. The OFYP may reduce the number of instructional days for certain students. Participation is open for all SFHS students, grades 9-12. SFHS students that are eligible for the OFYP are eligible for release from school on May 21, 2010. Spring 2010 TAKS Testing In 1999, the 76th Session of the Texas Legislature enacted Senate Bill 103, mandating implementation of a new statewide testing program. The new testing requirements, subsequently named the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, were implemented in spring 2003. By law, all eligible Texas public school students are assessed in mathematics in grades 3-10 and exit level; reading in grades 3-9; writing in grades 4 and 7; English language arts in grades 10 and exit level; science in grades 5, 8, 10, and exit level; and social studies in grades 8, 10, and exit level. SFHS will conduct the annual testing beginning in March, 2010. TAKS testing dates for SFHS students are: · Wednesday, March 3rd - 9th grade Reading, 10th grade & Exit-level ELA · Tuesday, April 27th - 10th grade Math · Wednesday, April 28th - Exit-level Math · Thursday, April 29th - 9th grade Math, 10th grade & Exit-level Science · Friday, April 30th - 10th grade & Exit-level Social Studies Exit-level retests will be given in March for all students that have not previously met minimum standard in one or more test. Exit-level retest dates are: · Monday, March 1st - Social Studies · Wednesday, March 3rd - ELA · Thursday, March 4th - Math · Friday, March 5th - Science The next retest opportunity for Exit-level students will be April 27-30. Individuals who are no longer enrolled in school and who have not previously met minimum expectations on all sections of the TAKS test, but who have met all other graduation requirements, may register to retake the necessary section(s) online at http://www.TexasAssessment.com or by contacting Brent Kirkpatrick at (409) 925-2700 for a registration packet. The paper registration form must be received in Austin no later than 5 p.m., January 22nd.

***Up-to-date Yearbook Information***
2010 yearbooks, Senior Ads, and Business Ads are now on sale at www.smart-pay.com For advertisement order forms, go to www.sfisd.org/keefer and click the document manager button. 2008-2009 yearbooks are in. SFHS will begin distibution of the yearbooks on Thursday, September 10th. Students and former students may pick them up in the cafeteria after school (2:30 pm). If they are not picked up at that time, then they may be picked up in Room D112. We also have some older yearbooks available for puchase from the following years: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. If you are interested in purchasing one of these older books, please contact yearbook sponsor Stacey Keefer for details. |
