Answers
1)  Q What if I do not have a home computer?
A
You may use any computer that can access the Internet.
2)  Q What if I forget my password?
A
Go to the Sign In Screen and click: "Forgot Your Password." Enter your email address. Your password will be emailed to you.
3)  Q Can I add more than one student?
A
Yes. Sign in and then click Manage Students. Follow the screen instructions to add a new student to your account. Submit the request for approval.
4)  Q What information is verified for a parental account?
A
A parent/guardian must be registered in our Student Information System (SIS) as a legal custodial guardian for each child added to the parental account.

Parental information that will be verified against the SIS includes: parent name, address, and home phone.

Student information which will be compared to the SIS for verification: Student ID (OTHER ID), Security ID, student name, student address, school name, date of birth and Social Security number.
5)  Q What is the Student ID (OTHER ID) and Security ID?
A
Each student is issued an internal ID # (Other ID) and a Securtiy ID that is used in the Student Information System (SIS) and the electronic grade books. These numbers are needed to connect your student to the correct account in the database for grade/attendance access.
6)  Q How do I find out my student's ID (OTHER ID) and Security ID?
A
You can request these numbers from the Parent Connect Manager. These numbers will not be given out over the telephone nor by e-mail nor given to students.
7)  Q Why would my account be denied?
A
If the information you enter on your application of Parent Connect access does not match what is currently recorded for you or your student in the district Student Information System (SIS), your account will be denied. Please see information verified for parent account.

If you do not enter the correct Student ID (OTHER ID) or Security ID for your student, you will not be approved for an account.

If the student date of birth or Social Security Number does not match, you will not be approved for an account.

If the parent/custodial guardian name does not match the SIS, you will not be approved for an account.
8)  Q What are the steps I need to take to correct a denied application?
A
If your application to add a student has been denied, please follow these steps:
 Click Manage Students on the navigation list;
 Click "denied" next to your student's name;
 Change any necessary information;
 Click Save;
 You may add and send a message to the Parent Connect Coordinator if you
 would like;
 Click Send;
 Close window upon completion.
9)  Q Which parent can have an account?
A

The parent/custodial guardian listed as the head of household in the SIS will be considered for an account. If you are a joint parent, you will have to share an account with the parent listed as head of household. Step parents will need to share accounts with the primary parent.

For example: Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Susan Smith are the parents of Jim Smith.  Mr. John Smith is listed as the head of household and will be given a Parent Connect account.  Mrs. Smith will share that account.

10)  Q How can I apply if I am a non-custodial parent?
A
Contact your student's campus office or the Parent Connect Manager.
11)  Q When looking at the student's grades, what do the numbers mean under the Cycles?
A
12)  Q When looking at the student's attendance, why is it blank?
A
If the student has not missed any days of school and/or has not been tardy, there is nothing to report, therefore it will be blank.
13)  Q When looking at my student's attendance, what do the different codes mean?
A
14)  Q Why can I send e-mail to some of my student's teachers, but cannot to other teachers?
A
Thank you for your interest in contacting your child’s teachers. Please know that the district recognizes parental/teacher communication as a key factor in each student’s successful education.

Santa Fe Independent School District recognizes that electronic mail (email) is a valuable communication tool that is widely used across our society. Staff members are provided with district email accounts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of communication.

The district does not require that a staff member correspond via email. Using email as a communication tool is voluntary. If a teacher chooses not to use email as a communication tool, parents may contact the teacher through the campus office or written communication.

15)  Q Why is Parent Connect closed at different times during the year?
A
Parent Connect Login will be disabled during grade reporting weeks. This allows for end-of-nine week and semester grade finalizations and calculations. Below are the expected dates for the 2000-10 school year:

October 26, 2009-October 30, 2009
January 19, 2010-January 22, 2010
April 5, 2010-April 9, 2010
16)  Q Why doesn't the text messaging trigger for Parent Connect notify me whenever my child's grade falls below the average I have selected?
A
If the number for text messaging is a long distance number it will not send you a message. The triggers do send e-mail messages, so this may be a better choice.
